Extra Help
All Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies teachers provide extra help after school hours, during select days. Check with team teachers to figure out which days they are available for this extra help. Extra help generally starts after dismissal at 2:30 pm and continues until 3:00 pm. Transportation home is not provided. Durham County Main Library
Durham County Libraries have a number of resources geared towards academic support for Durham middle school students with a library card. Different branches offer Brainfuse, an on-demand eLearning program available for all ages and learning levels. The program includes HelpNow, which offers personalized live homework help that is aligned to state standards in core subjects like math, reading, writing, science and social studies. Encore! After-School Program
Encore! is an after-school program dedicated to assisting students with academic and enrichment concerns. Students stay at Carrington directly following the dismissal bell to complete homework/classwork while participating in extracurricular activities. The program maintains a staff to student ratio of 1:15 or lower. Programs are staffed by a mix of teachers, youth service workers, college students and volunteers. Transportation home is provided and the cost is $50 for half the year or $100 for the whole year, but scholarships are available. There may be a wait list.

Emily K Center
The purpose of the Emily K Center is to inspire students to dream big, act with character and purpose, and reach their potential as leaders in their community. The Center’s K to College Model serves academically-focused, low-income students in out-of-school programming designed to help them achieve in school, gain entry to college, and succeed throughout their lives. 4-H Youth Development
Through 4-H, thousands of North Carolina’s young people learn new skills and serve their communities each year. 4-H offers clubs, special interest programs, summer camps, school enrichment and after-school child care. El Centro
El Centro Hispano provides educational programming for both child and adult community members focused on youth/adult education and family development. Services include classes for Hispanic/Latino children to improve Spanish language writing & reading skills, afterschool homework help for children in grades K-12 in Spanish & English, as well as a daily lesson in reading & math, and general youth development programs.
