Durham County - Parks and Rec
Durham County offers a number of low-cost summer camps through the Parks and Recreation Department that are affordable for Durham County residents. Go to the following site click through the pages of the Summer Camp Brochure, or download the PDF. These range from academic enrichment classes, volunteer service camps, and active sports camps. Online registration, Durham Co members fee, and sliding scale fees available.

UNC Chapel Hill
Girls Talk Math - Free Program
This program helps students discover the history of women in mathematics. During the camp students will create a podcast series about the life of these female mathematicians and cover topics of high school curriculum and college level mathematics.

GSK Science in the Summer (K-9th Grade Programs)
This is a free summer program. Science in the Summer (SIS) provides fun, high-quality science education programming at sites in ten counties: Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, Orange, Vance, and Wake. Certified teachers lead SIS classes. The classes are designed to spark children's interest in science and show how science is part of everyday life. Experienced science educators from Morehead Planetarium and Science Center oversee the program.

Durham Tech Free Week-Long Summer Construction Camp
Interested in the possibility of a career in the construction industry? Love using tools and machines, building things, and working with your hands? Construction summer camp is for you! Enjoy an action-packed week filled with guest speakers, demonstrations, field trips, and hands-on work using tools in the Durham Technical Community College woodshop! This free, co-ed camp is for rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders.

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Summer Camps
NCCU offers a variety of summer camp opportunities for triangle teens in both middle and high school. Some of these camps are low-cost or free, others may have substantial fees associated with them. Starting April 2nd, NCCU will open enrollment for their Verizon Innovative Learners Camps - a free three week program for middle school/rising 9th grade males centered around design thinking, 3D printing, augmented reality and social entrepreneurship.

NCCU has had other camps in the past including Legal Eagle and Young Scholars Engineering. It looks like the applications posted are still the 2018 application as of March 19th. Summer of 2019 applications may open up in April. Check back in April.

Duke Splash
Duke Splash is a weekend experience for middle school/high school students throughout the school year and summer. Families are able to sign students up for specific day-long sessions at a cost of $5 for the whole day.

YMCA
The YMCA offers a lot of summer camps. Being a member of the YMCA reduces summer camp costs, but the Y also offers some sliding scale opportunities. Most of the programs cater to younger groups, however, there are tons of opportunities open to 6-8th graders.
